Final Major Project The brief was to produce a limited edition hamper to celebrate the diverse history of Fortnum & Mason who have delivered their iconic hampers across the world for hundreds of years. Poetic Jam
The latest edition to my final major project (designing a limited edition Fortnum & Mason hamper). I decided to make sleeves instead of boxes for the jam packaging as I wanted the inside of the product to be as much of a feature as the outside and have placed Rupert Brooke’s poem ‘The Old Vicarage, Granchester’ on the inside of the sleeves (the whole poem spans across the three flavours). Tea caddy designs
More work for my final major project and I think the collection might be finally coming together! Above are the label designs for a flowering tea and afternoon blend tea. I’ve added Brooke’s poem to the edges to create detail the draws the eye around the product and links with the design concept. I’ve been working on the jam and honey designs too and it’s been interesting to play around with applying the same design elements to different product shapes. Still lots more to come!
FMP label illustrations
Label designs and illustration concept for my final major project. After researching the Edwardian period I wanted to use a style that referenced the era and love the texture of this engraving style. At the moment I’m trying out a range of ideas of how to use this imagery but think the most effective so far is to use this under the label, creating an ornate frame. I’m continuing to develop my final major project this week (making a limited edition hamper for Fortnum & Mason) and have been focusing on the overall identity design and how to use this within a labeling system. First task was to design a logo or word mark I could use across the product range to unite the collection. East London Half Marathon 2013. Done!
Ran my first half marathon yesterday and consequently stairs are a massive problem today! I’ve found a sideways half step action helps (‘ow’ sounds effects optional). It was a great day but have to admit I found it tough from start to finish. The course took us around West Ham Park and then looped along the roads near the Olympic Park which was great to see and took your mind off the pain at times but it meant we had to do two laps of around 10km so mentally knowing... Blossom & Bloom tea caddy design
Design development work this week for my final major project and at the moment I’m finalising the design for the tea caddy which will contain a flowering tea. When the buds are placed in water they open up and flower as the tea brews. I thought this would be a nice way of incorporating elements from the environment (the orchard in bloom) within the hamper items themselves. Creating the right atmosphere – experiments in Photoshop
Working on my final major project today in order to create imagery that expresses the atmosphere of ‘reverie in the orchards’. In order to try and achieve this I’ve played around with images in Photoshop. Taking references from the environment, I wanted to create a layered effect that combined these elements but in a new and unique way. Idea generation continues
Sketching away this week and a slight change of direction for the literary F&M hamper design. I was originally going with ‘Belletristic’ as a name but have decided to change this to Reverie meaning ‘a state of being pleasantly lost in one’s thoughts; a daydream: “I slipped into reverie”. This is much more fitting for capturing the mood of long sunny days relaxing and picnicking by the river. Creating a project space
5 weeks in to my final major project and my workspace is slowly transforming into all things hampers! I’m plastering the walls with photos, mood boards and post its. Anything and everything that’s useful and relevant is going up! I find creating a project space a great way to keep things at the forefront of your mind, having everything filed away or on the computer means a lot of things can get lost so I like to get it up right in front of me as I work.
